Apostille Boston Massachusetts: Wicked Fast, Surprisingly Fun, Totally Legit
Updated: 15 hours ago

A document going abroad? Start by identifying who issued it and what the receiving organization needs. A Massachusetts apostille verifies an eligible signature or seal; it does not certify the truth of a document’s contents or guarantee that every recipient will accept it.
First, check the document’s origin
The correct authority depends on where the document was issued and who signed or certified it. A Massachusetts vital record, registrar-prepared university document, court record and privately signed power of attorney can require different preparation. A federal FBI report follows a federal route, while an out-of-state record generally needs review under its issuing state’s procedure.
Apostille or authentication?
The receiving country and organization determine which certification route applies. An apostille is used when the Apostille Convention applies to the destination and document. Other requests may call for authentication and additional embassy or consular legalization. Confirm the destination, document format, translation instructions and required arrival date with the recipient before ordering.
Documents clients often ask us to review
Certified Massachusetts birth, marriage and death records
Diplomas, transcripts and school-issued letters
Powers of attorney, affidavits and business documents
Eligible certified court, corporate and government records
FBI reports or mixed packets with documents from different authorities
A scan can help identify a document, but it may not be accepted for processing. Do not notarize a vital record photocopy or alter a government-issued document as a shortcut. If a new certified record or registrar-prepared copy is needed, ask about eligibility, authorization and the issuing office first.
How BNS helps
Boston Notary Service reviews the document type, issuing authority, destination and deadline. We explain the preparation questions, confirm the service scope and quote, then coordinate the agreed notarization where needed, eligible record retrieval, submission and return delivery. Government fees, service work and shipping are separate parts of the request. Available handling and timing are confirmed after review.
What to include in your request
Document name and issuing state, school, court or federal agency
Destination country and recipient’s written instructions
Whether you hold an original or certified copy
Number of documents and required arrival date
Where the documents are now and the return-delivery address
For a packet with several document types, list each one separately. That lets us review whether the items share a route or need separate handling. Translation is arranged separately with your chosen provider.
Request a document review
Send the document type, issuing authority, destination and deadline. We’ll review the next steps and confirm the proposed work and quote before you proceed.
