Remote Hire I-9 Verification in Boston: In-Person Review vs. Remote Notarization

A remote job does not automatically make Form I-9 a remote notarization. A Boston employee can meet an employer-designated representative locally for document examination even when the employer is elsewhere.

Three different concepts

Remote employment describes where the employee works. An authorized-representative visit is an employer-directed I-9 document review. Remote online notarization is a separate notarial process. These terms should not be used interchangeably.

Our appointment route

Boston Notary Service coordinates in-person I-9 review when the employer designates us and supplies its instructions. Share the location, deadline and HR contact before scheduling. We confirm the requested workflow and quote; online intake does not mean the document examination happens online.

What about video document examination?

DHS has a separate authorized alternative procedure for eligible employers. A video call or a remote-notary appointment alone does not establish eligibility or complete that procedure. The employer should determine whether it qualifies and follow current USCIS instructions. We do not advertise ordinary video notarization as a substitute.

Before your local visit

Get HR approval for the representative. Have the employer’s current form or authorized platform ready. Present the acceptable documents you choose under USCIS instructions. Tell us about platform access requirements before the visit, so problems can be resolved with HR.

After the review

Return the information through the employer’s specified channel. The employer controls its compliance and retention process. No notary seal is added to Form I-9 for this service. If HR identifies an issue, request instructions instead of improvising a correction or backdating information.
