Preparation & service details
Have a prepared power of attorney that must be used abroad? Boston Notary Service can review the recipient’s instructions and coordinate the appropriate notary appointment and certification steps. Your attorney or recipient prepares and approves the legal document; we help organize its handling.
Before the appointment, gather
- The complete prepared power of attorney and signing pages
- Written signing, witness and notarization instructions
- Signer location, signer count and preferred appointment time
- Destination country, deadline and return-delivery location
- Any translation or additional legalization instructions
Do not sign in advance unless your attorney or recipient specifically instructs you to. Some documents require the signer to appear before the notary. Witnesses, identification and certificate wording must be confirmed for the particular document and appointment.
Notarization and certification are different steps
A private power of attorney may need a proper notarization before a government office can authenticate the notary’s signature. The sequence depends on where the notarial act occurs, the document’s origin and its destination. Some recipients request further authentication or embassy legalization. Share their written instructions before arranging an appointment.
Our coordination process
- Send the destination, document type and recipient instructions for review.
- We confirm appointment needs, proposed route, service scope, quote and current estimate.
- After you approve the plan, we coordinate the agreed notarization, submission and return delivery.
Ask about a mobile visit to your home, office or another agreed Greater Boston location. Travel, witnesses, evening appointments and urgent requests depend on confirmed availability and are quoted before scheduling.
Common uses include overseas property, banking, family and business matters. A notarization or apostille does not establish that a power of attorney is legally sufficient or will be accepted. Your attorney and the receiving organization should answer legal and acceptance questions.
For overseas property, banking and business requests
Ask the receiving attorney or institution to approve the power of attorney’s wording and signing requirements before arranging the appointment. Tell us whether it needs a particular language, witnesses, an original packet or a translated apostille. These instructions affect preparation and delivery.
Already signed the document?
Describe where and when the notarial act occurred and which authority is identified on the certificate. Do not assume that signing another copy or adding a second notarization is necessary. We review the existing document and the requested certification route first.
Can you coordinate the notary and apostille as one request?
Send the signer’s Greater Boston location, destination country, document count and deadline. We can quote the accepted notarial visit, preparation, submission coordination and return delivery together, with each task identified. Your attorney remains responsible for the document’s legal effect.

Power of attorney for an overseas transaction
A prepared power of attorney for a foreign property matter, family transaction or business authorization may need notarization followed by an apostille or another certification route. Obtain the document and signing instructions from the receiving attorney or authority. Confirm accepted language, witnesses and whether the recipient requires the original completed packet.
Coordinate the Boston-area signing and international delivery
Tell us whether the signer is in Boston, Cambridge, Brookline, Newton or another Greater Boston community. Include the destination country, document count and required arrival date so appointment logistics and certification can be reviewed together. If the power of attorney has already been signed, describe the existing notarization before arranging another visit or mailing the original.
