What we do to help

  • Review the issuer, document format, signatures and recipient instructions.
  • Identify missing preparation before you order records or arrange notarization.
  • Confirm retrieval or school coordination when authorized and available.
  • Coordinate the agreed submission, updates and tracked return.
  • Review mixed NH, Massachusetts and federal documents as one organized request with the appropriate separate routes.

Boston Notary Service is an independent service provider. The government issues the apostille or authentication certificate.

1 · Find the right route

Tell us the issuing state or federal agency and the destination country. Your current home address does not decide the route.

Where the Hague Apostille Convention applies, the appropriate apostille normally replaces consular legalization. Other destinations may need state authentication, U.S. Department of State authentication and embassy or consular legalization. We review the exact chain for the document and receiving authority. Authentication verifies an eligible official signature or seal, not the document's contents or acceptance by the recipient.

FBI-issued reports follow the federal route, not an NH state apostille. Do not add a local notarization to an original federal document. List state and federal records separately.

2 · Prepare the correct document

Birth, marriage and death certificates

Ask the NH Vital Records Division or issuing city/town clerk for a record prepared for apostille use. Under RSA 5-C:99, it needs the registrar or clerk's signature and notarized acknowledgment. An ordinary photocopy notarized by a mobile notary is not a replacement. Retrieval depends on eligibility, authorization and issuing-office availability; we confirm these before quoting it.

Diplomas, transcripts and school letters

Send the school name and the recipient's instructions. A sealed transcript, registrar-certified copy and personal copy attestation are different documents. UNH's Registrar offers notary services when a notarized transcript copy is needed. Other schools set their own procedures. We review the required signature and coordinate authorized pickup or preparation only after the school confirms availability.

Powers of attorney, affidavits and business documents

We review any existing notarization before asking you to sign again. NH's published process requires an eligible NH notary public or justice of the peace to witness the document author's signature; a notary's seal must be included. Notarial work must take place within the officer's lawful authority. Have legal documents prepared by the appropriate attorney or receiving institution.

Court and corporate records

Start with the issuing court or agency's certified record. We check the signature and any additional preparation needed. Do not alter an official certification or assume an ordinary printout is sufficient.

3 · Current NH fees and procedures

Reviewed October 24, 2026.

The published state fee is $10 per document. Same-day batches of 10–19 documents incur an additional $25; 20–29 incur $50, and so on. This is not a $25 rush fee on every individual document.

Published apostille intake is Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:15 p.m., State House, Room 204, 107 North Main Street, Concord, NH 03301. Confirm holiday closures before travel. Large batches may run to the next business day.

Mail submissions require the request form, payment and prepaid return envelope. The official instructions do not give a fixed mail-processing turnaround. BNS service charges, record fees, travel and shipping are separate and itemized in the agreed quote.

4 · Plan your deadline with real dates

Tell us the exact date the recipient must receive the documents, not only your travel date. We work backward through:

  • Getting the correct certified record or notarized signature.
  • Receiving the required originals.
  • The available government submission window.
  • Additional authentication or legalization, if required.
  • Domestic or international carrier transit.

After review, we confirm proposed handoff and submission dates and the available delivery option. Same-day intake is not a same-day completion or delivery guarantee. Weekends, closures, preparation issues and school response times affect the schedule. Ask for a deadline review before paying for rush shipping.

5 · Return shipping and translation

We arrange quoted return delivery through FedEx or DHL. Optional signature-required return delivery is $10 extra where supported by the selected carrier and destination. Provide the recipient's full address, country code and phone number.

If translation is required, share the receiving office's written requirements. Translation may be needed before or after certification, depending on the request. You arrange translation with a separate provider; Boston Notary Service does not provide translation services.

Request a tailored plan

Include the document type, issuer, count, original/certified-copy status, destination, written recipient instructions, required-arrival date and return country. Say whether you need retrieval, school coordination or pickup. An initial scan may help review; we confirm which originals are needed and where to send them.

Living outside NH? We can review remote requests and confirm authorization and mailing arrangements. For MA–NH border pickup or notarization, include your town/ZIP code; availability and travel costs are confirmed individually. No walk-in NH office or automatic appointment is implied.
